Even though the USA didn’t have a dog in the fight and more than a handful of MXGP stars decided not to race the Motocross des Nations, it was still a historic event with a few surprises. The biggest susrprise was that Team Italy took the victory over last year’s winner and this year’s odds-on favorite, Team Holland, by one point (and that one point was in doubt throughout the final moto as Italian Alessandro Lupino kept crashing, but he kept getting up).
