The #94 plate Ken Roczen may not have raced the 2023 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, however, he has shown up to the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) geared up and grinding toward that title. With a lot at stake—money and pride—the 450 class has seen some interesting action thus far into the series. The top three riders, Chase Sexton, Jett Lawrence, and Ken Roczen, are each taking turns on top of the podium. Who will prevail at the finale next weekend in Los Angeles? Roczen is prepared for whatever may come his way.
Steve asked Ken about Jett waving him by and the baby gift. Ken said, “So, obviously, I haven’t won that much lately, and it was a motocross track. I haven’t raced that much lately besides Charlotte. My goal was from wherever I was after the start and try to hammer it down all the way to the checker flag. Nobody has really been able to put up a fight with Jett; there has always been a gap and gapping everybody. I was stoked about the win simply because, you know, it wasn’t like he waved me by after being back 10 seconds, right? I was more pissed off the next day simply because I felt like he ruined the opportunity for me to put in a late moto charge, make a pass, and have an epic win since nobody has really been able to do that, and he ruined it. It bothered me after 48 hours because I had the chance to make something super cool and then had the lamest ending ever. In my almost 15-year pro career, I have never had anybody let me buy or wave me by… Jett hasn’t learned how to lose yet. He hasn’t really lost yet, and he needs to learn that there might be somebody who can challenge him and beat him. I felt like a donkey. My first thought was that he was going to sit behind me, try to make a fool of me, charge me, and gap me in the end.”
