Josh Hill recently shared an update on Justin Barcia’s crash during Charlotte SuperMotocross Press Day Practice yesterday, noting that Barcia went down hard after grazing a tuff block. Hill suggested that changing tuff blocks to a triangle shape could reduce unpredictable crashes, as current blocks can cause bikes to react unexpectedly. With speeds increasing in SMX races but track width staying the same, Hill believes safety improvements could help. While praising Feld Entertainment for their professionalism, he emphasized that the sport should continue evolving for rider safety.
Josh Hill posted – Hope Justin Barcia is ok after he grazed this tuff block and it took him down pretty hard. I would love to see these things changed to triangle shape. Every time you touch one it’s a roll of the dice how it and your bike will react. Add that to the speeds that have increased at these SMX races, while the width of track has not increased, it could make a difference. This is not at all a shot at the promoters, Feld is unmatched in its professionalism, and they put on the best racing events in the world in my opinion. But there’s always room for improvements as the sport evolves. Just my 2 cents from the sidelines today.
