In a recent interview with NBC Sports, motocross legends Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto shared their thoughts on Haiden Deegan’s progression to the 450 class. Villopoto believes Deegan is “not ready” to make the jump just yet, emphasizing the need for more time in the 250 class to develop his skills and experience.
Deegan, who has been dominating the amateur ranks, recently announced plans to stay in the 250 class for the foreseeable future. This decision aligns with Villopoto’s assessment, as he explains:”I think he’s doing the right thing by staying in the 250 class a little bit longer. I think he’s got a lot of talent, but I think he’s still got some things to learn. The 450 is a whole different animal.”Villopoto highlights the importance of Deegan taking the time to master the 250 class before moving up, stating:”You can be fast on a 250, but when you get on a 450, it’s a whole different game. The power delivery is different, the bike’s heavier, the suspension’s different. There’s a lot of things that you have to adapt to.”
