Haiden Deegan sealed the 250SX AMA Supercross championship in dramatic fashion by winning the penultimate round in Denver, following a controversial late-race move on race leader Cole Davies.
Davies grabbed the holeshot and led the early laps, closely followed by Michael Mosiman and Deegan. Julien Beaumer, despite a poor start, quickly carved through the field to position himself in sixth.
As the race progressed, Deegan passed Mosiman and began reeling in Davies. Under relentless pressure, Davies managed to defend his lead until just two laps remained, when Deegan executed a hard-charging inside line that forced Davies off the track. The contact dropped Davies down to fifth, while Deegan held on for the win and the championship.
In his post-race interview with Jason Thomas, Deegan expressed both relief and defiance:
“Two laps to go, I wanted that win; I was going to do anything for it,” Deegan told Jason Thomas. “This means a lot to me because people doubted me the whole way saying I was all hype coming into Supercross and Motocross. They just mad that I’m him and they have to deal with it. If you don’t like it, they can suck it.”
A trusted source within the Star Racing Yamaha team later confirmed that Deegan received a warning from the AMA for both his aggressive pass on Cole Davies and for comments made during his podium speech. The warning cited “overly aggressive racing” related to the last-lap incident with Davies, as well as a potential Code of Conduct violation. While the exact violation was not specified, it is believed to be #2 from the list below: verbal abuse of a race official, event official, promoter staff, media, fans, etc. A fine may also be issued in connection with this violation.
