Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac has withdrawn from consideration for Team USA at the 2024 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. After returning from a thumb injury that sidelined him for much of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this summer, Tomac had requested an opportunity to prove himself in the final two rounds before the team selection. Despite finishing a strong third overall today, Tomac informed the AMA that he believes Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger, who placed second overall behind his teammate Chase Sexton, has earned the spot on Team USA over the summer.
Eli Tomac said : “If I had of been the number two guy I would say ‘sign me up,’ but AP was the number two guy, it was all of that, getting back into motocross knowing I’m going to race in 25, just to get racing.”
Regarding the 250 class (MX2) position, newly-crowned AMA 250 Pro Motocross Champion Haiden Deegan is the clear frontrunner, though he has yet to confirm his participation. More updates will be provided as they become available.
