Veteran motocross racer Mike Brown, 53, of Bristol, TN, is currently recovering after sustaining multiple severe injuries in a high-speed crash on June 3 while practicing with his factory team. Brown described the moment in detail:
“While practicing with my factory riders, I suffered a high-speed crash on the second-to-last lap. As I approached a rut, my front tire entered and followed the line, but the rear tire failed to follow through, causing the bike to fishtail violently. This sudden loss of control resulted in me being ejected over the handlebars at high velocity. I was launched forward and landed head-first, absorbing the full impact with my head and upper body.”
Following the crash, Brown was transported by his team manager, Jeremy, to the emergency room for urgent care. Imaging and neurological evaluations revealed a series of critical injuries, including a concussion, a broken neck, a transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke), and a swollen artery caused by bone trauma.
On June 5, Brown underwent cervical spine surgery at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Surgeons stabilized his C1 vertebra with a screw and installed metal plates on C5 and C7 to reinforce his spine. Despite the successful procedure, he continues to face neurological and vascular complications.
Brown is scheduled to be transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, where he will begin intensive neurological and physical rehabilitation. His long-term prognosis remains uncertain, but doctors are cautiously optimistic about his recovery.
In a heartfelt statement, Brown expressed his gratitude:
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my entire Triumph Racing team for their unwavering support from day one. I’m especially grateful to my manager, Jeremy, for standing by my side and ensuring that every medical decision was handled swiftly and with care. I owe a huge thank you to Dr. Ifeanyi N. Nzeawu for the incredible treatment and dedication during such a critical time.”
