Twelfth round of the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of France at Lacapelle-Marival! Today, October 10, marks the second stop in as many weeks for the paddock and interest is at an all-time high after what transpired at the Grand Prix of Germany.
That was Grand Prix motocross at its best. A fervent French crowd at an old school track cheering on their hero as he went toe to toe with the fastest man on the planet amidst a cacophony of noise. This was the the Febvre/ Herlings show all day long at Lacapelle but it was Herlings who took the overall win with a pivotal pass with four laps to go in race two much to Febvre’s frustration.
Both motos had a similar narrative but very different endings. Herlings holeshot race one but got chased down and passed by a flying Febvre, who pulled a four second gap. But in the last ten minutes Herlings found his flow and that corner speed to reel Febvre back in and get right on his rear wheel by the last lap – but he just couldn’t not find a way by the Frenchman despite a last ditch attempt three or four turns from home.
