The Baja 1000 is a legendary, grueling off-road race, but this year, number 279x Ben Hunter stole the show. Racing with Type 1 diabetes, he tackled the course with incredible creativity: a Starlink Mini duct-taped to his helmet for internet, powered by a Jackery power supply taped to the rear fender, and his mom on FaceTime, duct-taped to his chest!
This rider’s courage and ingenuity turned heads, showcasing that it’s not just about finishing the race—it’s about how you get there. In the face of Baja’s relentless terrain, he reminded everyone that true grit and determination know no bounds.
Ben Hunter said, “I wanted to race the Baja 1000 so badly, but my mom won’t let me because I have Type 1 diabetes. She said the only way I could race is if I was live streaming the whole time.”
