De Carli KTM Factory rider Lucas Coenen MXGP debut may be off to a rough start after a heavy crash during training just days before the season opener in Argentina.
The 18-year-old Belgian was set to make his anticipated move to the premier class this year, but his debut is now uncertain. Reports surfaced online about the incident, prompting further investigation into his condition.
A source close to the situation confirmed the crash, though the injuries appear to be less severe than initial rumors suggested. According to our sources, Coenen sustained injuries to both forearms, specifically to the crest of the radii in both arms—near the wrists. Medical examinations in Italy reportedly identified these as “incomplete bone fractures” without displacement, meaning no surgery is required—just rest.
The real challenge? Time. With the MXGP season kicking off in just a week, Coenen has little opportunity to recover. So far, neither his camp nor the KTM and De Carli teams have made an official statement. However, it’s understood that he still intends to travel to Argentina and line up for the first Grand Prix—unless circumstances force a last-minute change.
