SMX Las Vegas Showdown: High-Stakes Playoff Scenarios Unfold!

    By DirtbikeLoverSeptember 19, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

The 2024 SuperMotocross season comes to an electrifying conclusion this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with triple points on the line in both the 450 and 250 classes. This “winner-take-all” scenario creates thrilling possibilities for the top contenders, with the final outcome resting on the performances of a few key riders.

    450 Class Breakdown:

    • Hunter Lawrence leads the standings with 90 points. If Hunter wins the race, he will secure the SMX Championship outright, capping off a dominant season.
    • Chase Sexton, sitting just one point behind with 89, has a strong shot at the title. If Sexton wins and Hunter finishes second, Sexton will clinch the championship by an 8-point margin, demonstrating the razor-thin gap between these top riders.
    • Jett Lawrence is currently in third with 81 points. For Jett to take the crown, he must win the race and hope that his brother Hunter finishes in second. This would tie them at 156 points, with Jett winning the championship on a tiebreaker due to more SMX victories (2 vs. 1).
    • Eli Tomac, in fourth with 69 points, would need a miraculous outcome where the top three riders all finish worse than fifth. If that unlikely scenario happens and Tomac wins, he would total 144 points, which could hand him the overall win.

    250 Class Breakdown:

    • Haiden Deegan holds a commanding lead with 100 points. However, he still needs to finish third or better to guarantee the title, even if his nearest rival, Tom Vialle, wins the race. If Deegan finishes fourth and Vialle wins, they will tie, with Deegan securing the championship on a tiebreaker.
    • Tom Vialle, second with 81 points, needs to win and hope Deegan falters. If Vialle wins and Deegan finishes fourth or lower, Vialle will take the championship.
    • Levi Kitchen, with 78 points, still has a shot. For Kitchen to win the championship, he must take the overall win while Deegan finishes fifth or worse. In this case, Kitchen’s points would surpass the leaders regardless of how Vialle finishes.
    • Jo Shimoda (76 points) and Julien Beaumer (69 points) have slim chances to win, requiring a significant breakdown from all the riders ahead of them. Deegan would need to finish sixth or worse for either Shimoda or Beaumer to have a chance at the title.

With so many potential outcomes, the Las Vegas finale promises high drama as the season-long efforts of these top riders will either pay off or fall apart in the ultimate SMX showdown!
