Tim Gajser, the Slovenian motocross star and 2025 MXGP championship leader, has been forced to undergo shoulder surgery following a crash during the MXGP of Switzerland on April 21. Despite initial optimism and attempts to manage the injury conservatively, Gajser’s medical team determined that surgery was the best course of action to ensure a full recovery.
The crash occurred during the second moto at the Frauenfeld circuit, leading to a dislocated shoulder. Although the shoulder was initially reset, subsequent evaluations revealed the need for surgical intervention. Gajser underwent the procedure on Wednesday, May 7, and is now focused on his recovery.
In a statement shared on social media, Gajser expressed gratitude for the support from fans and the medical team, stating, “Everything was tried to avoid this situation but unfortunately this was the best solution, and now the goal is to recover as soon as possible.” He added, “Thank you to everyone for all your support, it hasn’t been an easy time but it is always nice to receive such positive messages from people. See you soon!”
Gajser’s absence from the upcoming MXGP of Portugal has opened the door for competitors like Romain Febvre, who is now just 27 points behind in the standings. Honda’s Ruben Fernández will carry the team’s hopes in Portugal, aiming for a strong finish in Gajser’s absence.
As Gajser focuses on his recovery, fans and teammates alike are hopeful for his return to the track in the near future.
