During the Arlington Supercross event last weekend, Swapmoto Live cameraman Chase Curtis was injured when an out-of-control rider veered off the track during the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) and struck him. This incident occurred during his first solo race weekend assignment.
Don Maeda posted – This one is tough. This weekend, @imchasecurtis headed to Arlington, Texas, to cover the Triple Crown SX for Swapmoto Live as I headed to Japan with my family to visit Samy, who took a job in Hokkaido several months ago. This was – unbelievably – going to be Chase’s first solo race weekend, where he’d be responsible for creating the eight different photo, video, and written components involved in covering a single race, and he was crushing it! And then he got crushed. Chase was hit by a rider during the 450 LCQ and he’s badly injured. He’s in surgery as I type this, and it’s heartbreaking for me as I’m on the other side of the world. Ironically, the last time I was in Japan was with Chase a couple of years ago, when we came to see Trey Canard race the electric Honda. Anyway, I’ve always had mixed emotions about GoFundMe campaigns but have regularly donated when I feel compelled. In this instance, Chase was doing what he needed to do, and is an innocent victim in an accident. No one is blaming Feld, the rider, or anyone else. It was an accident. I’ve written much more on the GoFund Me I’ve started on behalf of his parents.
