Honda HRC Jett Lawrence crashed out of the lead, seemingly in control of the race with only a couple of laps remaining. He then collided with Vince Friese while attempting to pass Webb for the lead on the final lap. Jett later admitted that he should have been more aware of the track ahead to avoid Friese.
Reflecting on the incident, Jett said, “The bike was performing well, and I was feeling confident. However, I was caught off guard. Sometimes you’re the hammer, sometimes you’re the nail, and I ended up hitting that Tuff Blox… It was just a small mistake; I almost saved it. After the first crash, I got back up despite the bent bars and tried to catch up to Cooper. Unfortunately, I made another silly mistake in the second crash. I should have anticipated that the lapper would stop, but I didn’t think ahead enough. Nonetheless, the team rode exceptionally well tonight. Congratulations to Eli, AP, and Cooper; they were outstanding. This experience is another learning curve for me, and I’m looking forward to racing in Daytona.”
