Halfway through the race, an intense battle for the lead unfolded between Eli Tomac and Tim Gajser. Tomac pushed hard to challenge Gajser, who was defending fiercely. The two riders went side by side multiple times, with Gajser utilizing the inside line to momentarily take the lead. Tomac, determined to win for both Team USA and himself, responded by finding another gear and pulling ahead, but not without making mistakes. Gajser capitalized on one of Tomac’s slips, briefly retaking the lead before the adrenaline-fueled duel continued as they traded positions.
