X Games Bans Electric Dirt Bikes from Competition in 2025!

    By DirtbikeLoverMarch 13, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

At X Games Ventura 2024, Patrick Evans, Pat Bowden, and Colby Raha made history by competing on electric motorcycles. Evans took gold in Best Whip, while Raha secured silver in Quarterpipe High Air, showcasing the power of the Stark VARG, a cutting-edge electric dirt bike.

However, just months later, X Games officials announced a shocking rule change—banning electric motorcycles from all 2025 events. The decision, reportedly made without consulting Stark Future, has sparked controversy, especially since some competitions, like Osaka, will take place indoors—where electric bikes would have a clear advantage.

    Updated: Wednesday, March 13, 2025, 2:55 p.m. EST

X Games released the following statement regarding the ban:

“At X Games, we are committed to preserving the core of action sports while continuously evaluating new technologies. Our current competition formats are designed around the performance and characteristics of traditional gas-powered bikes, which remain the global standard for elite competition. While we recognize the advancements in electric bike technology, our focus is on maintaining a level playing field and delivering the best experience for both our athletes and fans. We’ll continue to monitor the evolution of the sport and assess how new innovations fit within X Games competitions.”

While X Games defends the ban as a move to protect traditional gas-powered bike competition, critics argue that major manufacturers like Yamaha, Honda, and KTM pressured officials into the decision—especially after Stark’s unexpected success.

With 80 horsepower and instant torque, the Stark VARG has already proven itself as a game-changer, but its future at X Games is now uncertain. Many believe the sport should embrace innovation rather than restrict it.

As of now, X Games has not provided further clarification on its decision.
