De Wolf Discusses MXGP vs. US Riding Style – ‘The Americans Only Rev the Bikes’

    By DirtbikeLoverNovember 15, 2024Updated:November 16, 2024No Comments1 Min Read

Kay de Wolf, the newly crowned MX2 World Champion, who recently came to the U.S. for a few weeks to train for Supercross and appeared on the Gypsy Tales Podcast, shared his observations on the differences between American and GP riders. He noted that American riders tend to rely heavily on high revs and aggressive clutch use, while he and Tom Vialle, both raised in Europe, prefer a smoother approach with lower revs and less clutch work. De Wolf believes this contrast is rooted in the different riding styles developed in Europe, where technical precision often takes precedence over raw power.

De Wolf said on Gypsy Tales: ” I think the biggest difference is the revving. You see Tom Vialle riding and think, he’s slow, then you see the lap times, and he’s a second faster! He got that back from. Europe I think.”
