In a surprising turn during 450 Moto 1 at the 2025 Ironman National, Jett Lawrence jumped early and got caught in the starting gate. According to Steve Matthes, officials reviewed the incident and penalized Jett one lap for “gate brutality.”
Matthes noted:
“Officials looking at Jett’s jumping the gate. Not sure why, he got caught in it. He didn’t rip it out or anything. Jett has been docked a lap for gate brutality so P17 or something like that.”
Jett had worked his way through the pack and initially finished 3rd, battling with Chase Sexton and Hunter Lawrence. But the lap penalty dropped him back to 17th place in the official results.
The decision has sparked debate among fans, especially since the incident appeared accidental.
