It was a challenging weekend for the flaggers at Ironman. Several crashes went unnoticed, and unfortunately, @glenncoldenhoff was injured on Saturday because of it (see video on our page). In this case, the flagger was actually facing the wrong way—watching up the track instead of down—but that ended up saving him!
According to @mxgp protocols, the track was left rough after Saturday’s motos and only lightly prepped before Sunday, with just a bit of grooming and some water added. The lip of the wall jump stayed rutted and slick, causing multiple crashes in the B-final. When they finally worked on the lip, it was still muddy, and in the first moto Jett ended up jumping off track while leading.
Big credit to the flagger for his lightning-fast reflexes—and even more impressive, he immediately got back up and kept watching the finish line jump
Jett Lawrence almost landed on a flagger in Race3 at Ironman! Challenging weekend for the flaggers at Ironman.
