Yamaha Motor has unveiled the YE-01 Racing Concept, an electric motocross prototype developed in collaboration with French manufacturer Electric Motion (EM).
The project is part of Yamaha’s wider carbon-neutral initiative and is designed to compete in the upcoming MXEP electric motocross class, which will take place alongside select rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

Yamaha’s Electrification Strategy
The YE-01 project is a key element of Yamaha Motor’s long-term plan to achieve carbon neutrality across all product lifecycles by 2050. The company emphasizes a multi-path approach to sustainability, advancing electrification while continuing to develop combustion and hybrid technologies.

Yamaha has previously created the TY-E electric trials prototype and has participated in both the FIM Trial World Championship and Formula E, using these competitive arenas to develop and test new technologies.

The YE-01 features a chassis shared with the 2026 YZ450F and is equipped with a fully adjustable KYB speed-sensitive fork and rear shock. Yamaha’s goal is to preserve the handling dynamics and rider feedback characteristic of its petrol-powered motocross models. A slim body and flat seat, inspired by the YZ450F’s ergonomics, provide riders with unrestricted movement and control.

The prototype employs a liquid-cooled electric motor paired with a hydraulic clutch to replicate conventional power delivery characteristics. Yamaha says the system is capable of MXGP-level performance, with the battery placement optimised for centralised mass, similar to the layout principles used in the YZ450F’s reverse-head engine design.
